In 1972, George moved to Middleham with his family where he took up the position of box driver and travelling head lad for Eric Collingwood.

Injury forced George to retire about 10 years ago, he was working for Lord Zetland prior to this.

Don Stacy

Don was flattered to be invited to Ludlow Racecourse on 9 th November for the “Don Stacey “Lifetime in Racing” Handicap Hurdle Race” in respect of his 50 years working in the Racing Industry. Don spent 10 years working for the “great” Ryan Price and is still working to this day, at Charlie Mann’s Upper Lambourn yard.

Harry Buckle

Harry Buckle was our worthy candidate at a wet Nottingham on 25th October. Harry began his career in Malton as apprentice to Ernie Davey aged just 14 riding his first winner at the age of 15.

He later moved on to be Head Lad to Fiddler Goodwill before becoming Head Lad to Mr Thompson Jones where he stayed until his retirement. Harry received the Stable Lad of the Year Award in 1996.

Clive Searle

October 20th was a special day for the family of Clive Searle as his Lifetime in Racing was celebrated with a special memorial race. Clive worked in racing his whole life as a national hunt jockey until a fall ended his career, as a trainer in Australia and later working for Rae Guest in Newmarket.

In 2004 Clive sadly passed away after a short brave battle against cancer.

John Nash

We were delighted to applaud the 50 year career of John Nash at Windsor Racecourse on 16th October. John came into racing aged 15 starting his apprenticeship with Major Peter Nelson in Upper Lambourn, later moving on to work for Fulke Walwyn and Peter Walwyn before becoming Head Lad to the Hon Ben Leigh.

In 1976 he moved on to work for Barry Hills as work rider where he stayed for 25 years until injury forced his retirement at the age of 66.

John Wilsoncroft

John Wilsoncroft had his day at Newmarket on 13th October to celebrate his 50th year in racing.
He began his career in Lambourn working for Geoffrey Kennedy and later Miss Sinclair before moving on to begin his 15 year association with David Morley in Newmarket.

He is currently Head Lad for Rae Guest where he has been for 19 years and still rides out today at the age of 64.

Frank Conlon

Frank Conlon was our candidate at Wolverhampton on 9th October. Frank has already dedicated 53 years of his life to racing having worked two spells at Henry Cecil's totalling 30 years as his head lad as well as 6 years as head lad and work rider for Sir Michael Stoute.

Frank is now in semi-retirement but continues to share his wealth of knowledge teaching at The British Racing School as well as escorting visitors to Newmarket on racing trips.

George Charlton

“Geordie” Charlton’s “Lifetime in Racing” award was presented to him at Catterick on 5 th September, his race kindly supported by Blue Chip.

Geordie is now 70 years of age and still works in Mark Johnston’s yard team where he has been a valued member since the early 90’s having looked after the great Double Trigger. In the year 2000, Geordie won the “Stable Lad of the Year” Award.

Paddy Duddy

Hugh Duddy , known to all as ‘Paddy,’ was a very popular candidate for his award which he received at Goodwood on 16th June. His career has stretched for over 61 years beginning in Yorkshire where he was apprentice to John Thwaite before moving down to Epsom to work for Peter Thrale and hi brother Dick. During his time in the industry, Paddy has worked for many of Epsom’s great trainers including Ron Smyth, Geoff Lewis, John Sutcliffe and Brian Swift.

Aged 74, he still gets up early every day to work for Terry Mills where he remains an active member of their team.

Ken Cox

We were delighted to honour Ken Cox with the running of the “Ken Cox Lifetime in Racing Claiming Stakes” at Salisbury Racecourse on 13 June.

Ken has worked at Kingsclere for over forty years, for Ian Balding and now, his son Andrew.During his time there he ` did ` the great Robellino throughout his Racing career.

Ginger Marshall

Michael “Ginger” Marshall and his family enjoyed their day at Lingfield Park on June 6 th and were blessed with fabulous weather for the occasion. Ginger began his career some 50 years ago as a sixteen year old apprentice to Willy Smyth at Castle Stables in Arundel where he stayed for many years later working for Gordon Smyth and then John Dunlop.

His riding career was ended by a serious back injury but he has remained at Castle Stables where he is now responsible for maintenance.

Tom Winters

Tom and his family enjoyed a lovely day at Lingfield Park on Saturday 4th February as unfortunately, Sandown were forced to cancel Tom's original race, in order to fit in races carried forward from the abandoned Cheltenham meeting the week before.
Nevertheless, Lingfield Park treated us all to a memorable day.

Tom, 77, has been in racing all his life having completed 50 years service to the industry. His last position before he retired was as Travelling Head Lad for Josh Gifford.
