Sir Peter O'Sullevan Memorabilia up for auction

An incredible piece of horseracing memorabilia will go under the hammer at Bangor on Dee racecourse tomorrow...

The Trustees of the Anne Duchess of Westminster’s Charity and Racing Welfare are thrilled that the Sir Peter O’Sullevan 1985 Grand National Commentary Card, which was won by Last Suspect, will be auctioned at the annual charity lunch at Bangor on Dee.

Original Sir Peter O’Sullevan commentary cards rarely come up for auction and when they do they normally realise significant bids. The 1985 commentary card is particularly poignant as Last Suspect was owned by Anne Duchess of Westminster.

The commentary card was bequeathed by Sir Peter to his good friend and fellow racing journalist Sean Magee, who has very kindly donated this to the Anne Duchess of Westminster Charity for the auction.

The charity lunch will also be attended by Racing Welfare’s President, HRH, The Princess Royal, together with Last Suspect’s jockey Hywel Davies, the Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd and 300 guests.

Charles Barnett, Chairman of the Anne Duchess of Westminster’s Raceday Committee comments: “This is a wonderful piece of memorabilia for our auction and we are extremely grateful to Sean [Magee] for donating it. We are also delighted that HRH, The Princess Royal will be attending the day, and I’d like to thank everyone who is coming to the charity lunch for supporting the event and helping us to raise funds for Racing Welfare.

Whilst guests will have the opportunity to bid on the commentary sheet, along with other fantastic auction items, the charities realise that the card is a sought after item by horseracing memorabilia collectors so they are also inviting telephone bids on this auction lot.

To enquire about making a telephone bid contact Mary-Ann Sandercock, Racing Welfare: msandercock@racingwelfare.co.uk or call 07790 844887.
