Racing Welfare Invests in Lambourn
Racing Welfare, the charity that helps all of racing’s people in need, opened its new premises at No 1 the High Street Lambourn on Tuesday 24th November. The New facility will provide supported accommodation for up to four young people starting out on their careers in racing. In addition it will provide new offices for the Charity’s Lambourn team, Rowan Hyde and Sarah Hopkins, and will include private interview space and internet terminals for use by racing staff. The new premises were opened by famous Lambourn trainer Peter Walwyn who has worked tirelessly over the years for the benefit of Lambourn’s racing community.
Peter said ‘This new facility will provide much needed affordable quality accommodation for young people and will complement the homes provided by the Lambourn Valley Housing Trust’.
The opening of the new office and accommodation was transmitted by a live video link to the London meeting of Racing Welfare’s Trustees in the presence of the Charity’s president HRH The Princess Royal.
Chief Executive Cedric Burton said ’This is the latest of our housing projects which over the past year have provided 6 retirement homes in Newmarket as well as funding a project in Epsom. We are determined to help young people get a good start in racing and we will be opening a comparable project in Middleham in the early part of 2010 and hope to be doing something similar in Malton soon’.
