10 runners, representing the stable staff charity Racing Welfare, in this year’s London 10k race on July 12th 2009 will making a colourful show when they line up at the start wearing some of Britain’s most famous racing silks. The athletes include Channel 4 racing presenter Mike Cattermole who will be wearing Andy Stewart’s colours, Clare Negus will be donning the colours of champion National Hunt owner Sir Robert Ogden and Richard Negus who will be wearing Ray Anderson Green’s Cheltenham festival winning green and yellow.
Other leading racehorse owners whose colours will be worn by the runners include Peter Clay, HH Prince Khaled Abdullah and British Horseracing Authority supremo Paul Roy.
Richard Negus who is the Charity’s communication’s manager was looking forward to joining the 30,000 other runners. “We have had some great support from some of the UK’s leading owners, and the opportunity to wear these famous silks to highlight Racing Welfare is fantastic. We have already raised £8,000 and hope to make it £12,000 by the 12th July. I will be honest and say that that running a 10k in Ray Anderson Green’s colours would probably be the only time I would get in them, my race riding record would not have encouraged him to reach for the phone to book my services to ever wear them riding one of his horses!” Mike Cattermole has been training hard and has recruited bookmaker Fred Done to stump up £100 for every kilometre the TV pundit completes this will contribute to the £2,000 already donated by Andy Stewart “ Training has been going well and Fred Done has said that he will make it £200 per kilometre if I achieve a time of 45 minutes or less. Oh well £100 is a good figure I suppose!”
