Paul Nicholls
18th October

Stable Visit to Paul Nicholls.

We were blessed with sunshine as we arrived bright and early on Thursday 18 th October for our tour of Paul Nicholls’ yard in Ditcheat, Somerset.

The air was a little brisk as we were driven off to watch the horses schooling in the arena before being given a tour of the gallops.
This was followed by a coffee break and photo opportunity with the stable stars Kauto Star and Denman.

We were then lucky enough to be taken to watch 3 rd lot on the gallops before our final tour of the yard and the rest of the horses.

The morning was topped off by a wonderful lunch in the local pub The Manor which has been voted “Racing Pub of the Year.”

Doncaster races

Doncaster day

Sadly, only six “Friends” were able to attend the visit to Doncaster in August. We began our morning with a tour of Willie McKay’s Bawtry yard where Danny Murphy has taken over the reins from Tim Pitt. We were shown around the yard and the horses as well as watching a lot on their private gallops.

This was followed by a visit to The Northern Racing College just 1 mile up the road. After coffee, we were introduced to the students and had the chance to watch them receiving their training as well as looking round the wonderful facilities and meeting some of the horses.

This was followed by a buffet lunch at The College before we headed off to Doncaster for their opening meeting since their refurbishment.
